Kansas City Voices’ mission is to discover, encourage and promote creativity and communication through literature and other forms of art and self-expression.
We publish an annual eclectic mix of fiction, essays, interviews, articles, poetry, and art. We seek exceptional written and visual creations from established and emerging voices. The magazine is published in November of each year.
PAYMENT |
$25 and one free copy of the magazine. In lieu of cash, contributors may elect to receive three (3) copies of the magazine in which their work appears.
AWARDS |
Contingent upon donations received, an award will be presented to one “Best of Prose” and one “Best of Poetry” submission from eligible work. Award winners will receive $100 each. The artist whose work is chosen for the cover art will also be awarded $100.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION |
Please Note: All manuscript submissions are blind.
We will contact you only if your piece is selected for publication.
We are now accepting only online submissions for Prose and Poetry.
Any work submitted prior to this change and in accordance with the submission guidelines posted at the time, is still being considered for publication along with the new online-only submissions.
DEADLINE |
The deadline for all submissions is March 15, 2010.
PROSE |
Includes fiction, memoir, essays, interviews with notable Kansas Citians, articles on regional places or history.

• All work must be unpublished at time of submission.
• Must be in 12-point font, Times New Roman or Courier.
• Please complete the required fields: name, address, phone, email, category, and title.
• Prose pieces must be no longer than 2500 words. We do accept excerpts from longer works.
• Please cut and paste work into submission box. Before cutting and pasting work into the text box, writers need to check their formatting to ensure they have a hard return for paragraphs.
• Authors may submit up to two works of prose. If submitting more than one submission, each must be sent as a separate e-mail submission.
• Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.

POETRY |
|
• Limit of 3 poems. Submission of more than 3 poems will disqualify all poems from being considered.
• All work must be unpublished at time of submission.
• Please complete the required fields: name, address, phone, email, category, and title.
• Please cut and paste poem into the submission box.
• Work must be single-spaced (double-spaced between stanzas, if any).
• Must be no longer than 35 lines. Any subject considered.
• If submitting more than one poetry submission, each must be sent as a separate e-mail submission.

ART |
|
• Submit print, slide, transparency or digital file on IBM compatible CD.
• A print-optimized PDF is the preferred digital format. If a PDF cannot be supplied, electronic formats such as JPG, EPS or TIFF will be accepted. All files must be 300dpi, with all fonts and images embedded.
• Black and white art must be black or grayscale (% of black).
• 4-Color art must be CMYK. Please include a color-balance proof.
• Artist must have required model and/or property releases.
• Send adequately sized SASE for return of materials.
